Understanding the lack of opportunities for growth and development of the youth, this project provides quality job-oriented training for the young population in Chennai slums with the support of Smile foundation. This programme trains the urban underprivileged adolescent youth in English Proficiency, Basic Computer Education and Soft Skills to create a pool of young and independent people who cater for skilled manpower in the fast emerging services and retail sectors.Exposure Visits and Alumni Meets are also organized for the students to facilitate direct interaction with ex-students and employers’ representatives that further helps them in understanding the path ahead. The placement cell of this project has linked with corporates for organizing internships and exposure visits for the students and offering placements for all.
Skill to Succeed
Skill to Succeed is a blended learning approach comprises a learning management system, self learning content for students in English, Work Readiness, Retail Customer interaction skills and Digital Literacy skills.
With the help of Quest alliance PSHE provided end-to-end support to vocational centers, including an immersive Train the Trainer experience for their facilitators, an orientation on blended learning techniques to the institute staff, transfer of technology, curriculum and materials for facilitators and students, as well as ongoing support for institutes, as they complete this change process to a blended learning environment.
PSHE also initiates contact with local employers to improve job opportunities for youth, and facilitates market visits, internships and on-the-job training, where possible.
Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu (RYK)
Since, unemployment is a major social problem, PSHE took up this activity into stride by educating youth into vocational and innovative educational programmes. Accordingly, RVK was granted to the society, under this programme the society is imparting training for youth on computer assistant, nursing assistant, customer relations, marketing skills, cell tower erection and maintenance. The programme was implemented in Nizamabad district, society provided training, food and accommodation for the candidates, with separate accommodation facility for girls and boys. To ensure transparency the programme was introduced with WAP card.
